After North Korea took control of Seoul (South Korean capital), United Nation forces landed at Inchon. Inchon was mainly undefended by the North Koreans. The United Nation forces gathered around Pusan to discuss a plan. On September 15, 1950 UN forces invaded Seoul and in a matter of days the UN forces took back Seoul.
In November 1951, China sent troops to support the North Koreans. China was a Soviet ally of the United States. After defending a line of Seoul, but UN forces over the 38th parallel but a stalemate arose after both sides couldn't defeat each other.
Douglas MacArthur wanted to end the war by using a nuclear bomb to make them surrender. He wanted to also destroy bridges so the Chinese couldn't transport any supplies and to invade China. When Dwight Eisenhower was elected president, he pushed for an armistice and the war was officially ended on July 27, 1953.
