The Pentagon Papers where a series of files that were supposed to remain secret and hidden that detailed U.S. involvement with Vietnam between 1945 to 1967. However, these files were leaked to the New York Times in 1968. The files were leaked by Daniel Ellsburg, who had worked on the papers, began to think that the war wasn't the best option and photocopied the documents. The New York Times released article after article about the report, even going to court to defend their right to publish against the U.S. government itself. The Articles showed that the government had lied and misled its citizens about their foreign affairs with Vietnam. This new knowledge led Americans to condemn the war more than they already had.
