Dean Rusk was born on February 9th, 1909 in Cherokee Country, Georgia. He was a U.S. secretary of state from 1961 to 1969. He was a continuous target of antiwar protesters during Vietnam because of his constant defense of the U.S's participation in the war. In the 1960, he was president of the Rockefeller foundation from 1951 to 1960. In 1961, he became secretary of state under JFK. In a year, he faced crises in Cuba, Indochina, and Berlin. After JFK's assassination, he served the same role under Johnson. From 1964, to 1968, he would constantly defend the U.S's role in Vietnam. This made him a target for the antiwar protesters. He had died on December 20th, 1994, in Athens, Georgia.
