Battle of Okinawa- Was the last major Battle of World War Two and it took place on April 1, 1945. It was Easter and ended up being the 6th bloodiest battle in U.S. History. When the troops landed on Okinawa they weren't met with any resistance. When the battle finally started the Japanese were using the Kamikaze tactic in which planes would attack U.S. Soldiers and the Japanese would kill themselves in the process. On Okinawa there was a place called Hacksaw Ridge where many soldiers died. The fighting was mostly hand to hand because of the Japanese hiding tactics and how cramped the ridge was. At the end of the battle Most of the Japanese forces killed themselves rather than get captured. Shortly after this battle a few months later the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki ending World War Two.,

Below are links and videos about the battle of Okinawa. Under all of these is a link to Hacksaw Ridge, which highlights a soldier in the U.S. Army who refused to carry a gun. He still managed to contribute greatly to the war efforts as a medic on the front lines.
